Gast
Let me very first start this post by stating that I do not understand Linda Ikeji personally, we aren’t buddies, and I have actually “fulfilled” her only a couple of times at celebrations …

However with all of that being said, I also have a deep and abiding respect for her. Is that ironic? Perhaps. But I have actually come to comprehend that you can disagree with somebody on something and still appreciate them. Whether you accept it or not, Linda has actually shown through her amazing journey of being a blogger and opinion influencer, that she is an inspiration to numerous individuals all over the world. She has boot strapped her method to success using a model that was once unpopular and belittled. She’s an Outlier, and handles to motivate, incite and baffle lots of simultaneously, and with fervour.

I can’t consider a lot of people who’ve run a modelling company, an events company, a magazine and a bunch of other companies, stopped working at them, and still kept pushing forward. I also do not know of anyone else (at least not on this side of the world), who is lawfully making loads of cash by blogging.
[ad] I suggest, before Linda, whoever thought it was possible to buy a home in Banana Island, and open a string of media-related companies gotten from the earnings of running a chatter blog? If the United States of America has the “American dream,” then Ikeji has the “Naija Dream.” Strong, relentless in its pursuit of joy and hope, and ultimately, effective. Here’s a woman who struck ground no eventually in her life, and is back to level 100. You need to appreciate such grit and decision, since as my Sapele people will state “E nor simple.”

Linda or “Lin-Lin” as she’s fondly called by those who are close to her turned 36 years old a couple of days back; and to mark her big day, she posted a 14-minute long video on her blog. Within hours of her publishing this video, social media was buzzing with all type of remarks and remarks about it – and I knew that I had to see it for myself. 3 minutes into the video, I wasn’t rather sure whether I liked it or not, due to the fact that it came off as somewhat insincere and scripted; plus Linda looked a little uncomfortable dealing with the cam. However, something altered quickly after – I’m not even sure what. But the veneer of coolness broke, and something more warm, earthy, real and susceptible spilled out.
[advertisement] And as Linda started to speak about her failures, her desires, her relationship with God, her belief in the credibility of her dreams, her utter wonder at how her life turned out, and the affirmation that she still “strategies to be around for a very long time,” something in me also paved the way to the hope and motivation that she was sharing.

And maybe it was a psychological moment, perhaps that thing was short lived, however I recognized it, and I felt it highly. Because it was sincere, powerful and wholehearted. And in that one special minute, I forgot about all the times I did not like Linda, or all the bothersome things she had actually done, and in that suspended area, in between my laptop computer screen and her video, I commemorated with her. I cheered her on, and I desperately desired her to prosper.

So you can imagine my inflammation when people took simply a couple of seconds of that video – of her preferring a remarkable male for a spouse – and turned it into an occasion for ugly banter, senseless rhetoric and upsetting remarks. How do you condense ALL she said, and narrow that down to simply one sector of her video? What is incorrect if she openly (and extremely honestly I might include), discussed what she desires? Is her desire for an other half in some way less legitimate or outrageous because she spoke about it in the open? If she had discussed further growing her organization or purchasing another house – would those declarations be consulted with derisive remarks? Is there not a peaceful strength and self-respect in such a guileless show of vulnerability? When individuals truthfully and honestly open up themselves, the least we can do, the least we should do as people is to accord them the respect and dignity that they deserve.
-
